Bicycle Day !
Through my LSD experience and my new picture of reality, I became aware of the wonder of creation, the magnificence of nature and of the animal and plant kingdom. I became very sensitive to what will happen to all this and all of us
Today is Bicycle Day. On this 19th day in April 1943, Dr Albert Hofmann, then a brilliant 38 year old Swiss Chemist working for Sandoz Labs, intentinally ingested himself with 250 micrograms of LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide).
Dr Hofmann is said to have experienced a sudden and intense changes in perception soon after ingesting the LSD. He then asked his laboratory assistant to escort him home and, as use of motor vehicles was prohibited because of wartime restrictions, they had to make the journey on a Bicycle. He later documented, and described in vivid detail, his psychedelic experiences during the ACID trip home riding the bicycle.
And that’s how this day in History – April 19th – has come to be known as Bicycle Day!
Later, in the 1960s, LSD – now known as “ACID” – became very popular as a recreational drug, pioneered primarily by the likes of Dr Timothy Leary. Although Dr Hofmann never wanted it to become this way. He discouraged the use of LSD as a recreational drug, and said that if used with care and respect, in limited quantities, it can have a positive effect on the human conciousness.
