Meet the SF Marathon Bootcamp Trainer – Stephanie Atwood.

Stephanie Atwood, our Tuesday Bootcamp Trainer, introduced herself at the Mission Dolores Park Bootcamp Meet today.

Here is Stephanie in her own words.

“Hi I am Stephanie Atwood. I started running a long time ago. My first marathon was somewhere in 1972 and I came in 3rd in the Women. My finish time was 3:42. At that time i did really well. My personal best marathon time is 3:15 (wow !) . I have qualified for Boston, but haven’t run it. When I was running hard and was doing it a lot i was definitely competitive. I have been running for close to 40 years.

I saw running not just as a physical activity but also as something for what it does for us in way of de-stressing us and give us confidence and such. So I am certified as a running coach and also certified as a personal trainer and I have been working in that area since about 1980.

I am now helping other people to reach their goals and at the same time really try and be able to push themselves but also be realistic about what is possible. It is a very fine balance, So I want you to go the distance, do the best you can, but at the same time also keep you from getting hurt.

This Boot-camp will focus on strength and core. Personally I advocate running 3 times a week and the rest of the time, do some kind of activity including just some rest, because you need to be able to recover from your workout.

So this is more of a cross training day than a running day. You are doing your long slow distances on Saturdays. Tracks on Wednesdays. On Mondays and Thursdays you have potential runs you can do, right ? So I recommend sticking with 3 days and just doing the runs according to the training program.
