Avanzare Chiropractic Sport Therapy - Dr Lui and Dr Cat in Action
When we came back from our LSD run, we saw that the Avanzare Chiporactic Sport Therapy doctors had already set up their makeshift demo Tent. In fact when I reached the home base, I noticed that Reanna (a fellow runner and Pacer) was already getting some treatment from Dr Liu. So I walked up to the tent and signed up for my free ART session.
ART – short for Active Release Techniques – is an innovative therapy for evaluation and treatment of soft tissue injuries. I asked Dr Cat (Catherine Polibos) – the doctor who gave me my free demo treatment - more about this treatment.
Dr Cat said that the soft tissue is the tissue that connects, supports and surrounds our bones. She said how the soft tissue, especially in our lower body (hips, legs, feet) could undergo textural changes from long distance running. The textural changes could then cause pain and hinder function. The ART therapy helps to treat the injured soft tissue while the rehabilitation is in progress.
Dr Cat asked me what my problem areas were. I told her how my knees usually feel very sore around the knee caps after a long run. I also told her that sometimes, my calves get achy. Dr Cat made me lie on my back, and gave me some ART treatment around both my knee caps, while explaining the various benefits of ART therapy. After the knees, she wanted to work on my calves also, but by that time, the demo seemed to have gotten popular, with quite a few other runner waiting to be seen. So we ended my therapy right there.
I thanked Dr Cat for the free demo and took her contact information and business card. Later, at home and through the weekend, I did not feel any knee soreness at all. So I think the therapy was helpful to my knees !
