the twitter hashtag for the sf marathon

It’s official ! @theSFMarathon, the official San Francisco Marathon Twitter user, just now declared that #SFM will be the twitter hashtag for the SF Marathon event ! YAY !

The most recent suggestion of a hashtag for the marathon has been by Jose Galvan. Runners who tweet will remember Jose Galvan from Sacramento, whose tweet using #seenonmyrun got coverage on the Sacramento Bee News !

How do you use the #sfm Twitter Hashtag ?

A Twitter hashtag is sometimes a single word (ex #running) , but mostly a phrase written as a single word (ex #SeenOnMyRun ) or an event name abbreviated to a single word, (ex. #sfm for the San Francisco Marathon), prefixed with a hash (#) that you can use anywhere inside your tweet, to refer to an event or phenomena that other people are also tweeting about.

The idea is that if you include a hashtag in your tweet, then other people interested in tweets can search twitter.com using that hashtag, and effectively filter out the millions of tweets to just see tweets on their favorite topic or event.

So if you are running the San Francisco marathon and have something useful or interesting to say about either the event itself, or training for the event or running as it relates to the marathon, then including #SFM in your tweets will help other SF Marathon runners easily find your tweets !

That’s it ! It’s really that simple (and that useful) !
