Running Log – Summary

  • Days to Marathon: 167
  • Training Week: 3 (Feb 7 – Feb 13)
  • Day: Mon, Feb 8th
  • Distance: 4.7 miles
  • Total Time: 50 minutes (includes stretching and breaks)
  • Pace: about 9:30 minute miles

It was our 3rd Monday Run at Sidney Walton Park today. Attendance was still good today as far as the trainees were concerned. The SFM Pacers, however, were barely present. I saw only Tom and 2 other Pacers.

Melanie, our Monday coach gave us some tips for staying safe while running. This included wearing reflecting gear on shoes and back, running in groups, carrying water and also having an ID tag on your wrist in case you got injured and had to be taken to a Hospital or something like that.

Then she told us about today’s run, which was to run down the Embarcadero towards AT & T Park 20 minutes out and then back, for a total of 40 minutes.

Running Log – Out towards AT & T Park for 20 minutes and Back

Since most of the SFM Pacers were missing, I was unable to find someone in my pace range, which is 9 / 9:30 minute miles. So I ran closely behind the fastest group, which was led by Tom.

About 5 minutes into the run, Bianca and Warren caught up with me, and from then on till the very end, I ran with them. Warren, it turns out, works for a software company that does location based (Geo) Apps and is originally from Australia. Bianca, as I would learn later, is a very smart German doctor (PHd) who works in the bio-chemisty field.

Anyways, we kept running along the Embarcadero, and ran behind AT & T Park along the Portwalk. Along this stretch, I stepped on Barry Bonds over and over exactly 5 times – on each one of  Barry Bondshome runs Plauqes (Nos. 500, 600, 660, 700 and 756).  At this moment, we had reached the end of AT & T Park. I looked at my watch and it indicated that we were only 15 minutes into the run. So to kill 5 more minutes, we continued on, over the bridge onto 3rd street and then into China Basin Park.

There,  we hit the 20 minute mark right at the point where the Baseball Player Statue at China Basin Park was situated. So I stopped me clock and we all stretched, some even getting a little lean assist from the Pedestal of the Statue.

Then we turned back and retraced our route back to the home base.

Back at the Home Base

Warren, Bianca and I reach the home base just behind Tom and the other fast runners.

After the cool down stretches, I got onto my little red scooter and drove into the cold winter night to get home. I used the GMAPS Pedometer website to accurately map and measure my run distance today.
